Mulled Wine


There’s nothing better than a warm glass of mulled wine on a chilly winter evening…

I play around with the ingredients all the time. You can use fresh slices of orange, cranberry juice, orange juice, water, brown sugar, honey (any combination of the above), mulled wine spice sachets or just mix up the spiced yourself. You can sweeten it up with honey and vanilla or make it more dry with bay leave, ginger and star anise. Here an example:

Serves: 2-4


1 bottle of red wine

100 ml cranberry juice

100 ml water

4 orange slices

3 tbs brown sugar

1 tbsp honey

4 cloves

grated nutmeg (to taste)

1 tbsp vanilla extract

1 bay leave

1 cinnamon stick

Place the wine, water, juice, spices, sugar and orange in a pan, Heat to just below boiling point and hold this temperature 15 minutes. Add the honey halfway through. Stir occasionally.
